Scripture: Luke 15:11-24

1. He ran.

  • An expression of the Father’s sacrifice

2. He kissed.

An expression of the Father’s love

3. He gave.

The robe -  acceptance
The ring - restoration
The sandals – freedom

4. He partied.

The Father’s attempt to restore relationships

“The Prodigal God”

I used to think the word “prodigal” meant “someone who had wandered off and has now returned.” But the definition of “prodigal” is  “recklessly wasteful” or “extravagant.”

So the story of the “prodigal son” is the story of a son who was recklessly wasteful. Only the central character in the story isn’t the son. The central character and hero in Jesus’ story is the father.
