Had an interesting afternoon on Monday. Larry Bradley, Doug Dahms and myself pulled away to go golf ball hunting. I like to get out when the weather is right and golf every once and a while. I’m not very good, but its still a fun game.
Well, I was moving along playing my usual game of boggy plus golf and then it happened. On the par five 15th hole at East Golf Course I had a good drive. The second shot headed toward the woods, bounced off a tree and back into the fairway around 142 yards from the green. The next shot landed eight feet from the hole and rolled in for an eagle 3. It was exciting, but it really didn’t match my regular golf game. I just don’t take the time needed to become the golfer to consistantly make shots like that.
It made me think of my life as a Christian. I live my life trying to do well, pressing toward the goals that God has set for me. But, like most everyone else, I often find myself “missing the mark”. Every once and a while through God’s grace and direction I get it right. Like golf, in order to be a strong Christian you have to practice, practice, practice. Jesus so desires for us to have a closer walk with Him, but few people are willing to take the time needed to become the Christian to consistantly get it right.
So… how much time are you investing in your walk with Christ these days?
