You may or may not know that Carrie and I have two boys.
Tyler is twenty one and currently attending a college in Tempe Arizona. He is pursuing a degree in “technology forensics”. I recently talked to one of his professors and was blown away when she gave me his progress report. His grades are great and she said “your son is an excellent student”. Did you get that? “Excellent Student”. Couldn’t be more proud. When I asked Tyler why he thinks he’s doing so well he said, “I really want this.”
Jadon will be three years old on August 2nd. He is rapidly changing from baby to little boy. He’s got a huge vocabulary and gaining daily understanding of the words that he uses. The other day while riding in the car he really impressed me. He said, “you’re a godly daddy”. I was very encouraged until I figured out that he doesn’t know what the word “godly” really means.
There is something that I really want to achieve in my life. It’s something bigger than my job as a pastor or my popularity in the community. One of my greatest desires is for both of my boys to look at me and know that I am a “godly daddy”. To really want this, I have to match my actions with my desire. I’ve got to seek daily for a relationship with God that continues to rub off on my boys in such a way that they will be affected by my commitment to Christ.Â
“I really do want this.”
